Celtic 1920's. Celtic Football Club was formally founded at a meeting in St. Mary's Church Hall on East Rose Street (now Forbes Street), Calton, Glasgow, by an Irish Marist brother named Brother Walfrid originally from Ballymote in County Sligo on 6 November 1887. The purpose stated in the official club records as "being to alleviate poverty in Glasgow's East End parishes".
